Battery failure is the number one reason motorists call a breakdown service, so it’s important to check that your battery is working effectively. If yours is low on power or your car won't start, Halfords in-store experts can test your car battery and fit a new one if needed.

Modern car electrical systems put big demands on vehicle batteries and there are several main reasons for a battery to be flat, usually old age or leaving the lights on (or even the radio or alarm, if parked for a long time).

Generally a jump–start with jump leads will put things right, followed by a charging session with a battery charger – although the life of the car battery will be shorter following a complete discharge.

If you find you need a new battery, as an AXA customer you can purchase a replacement one from Halfords and receive a 10% saving. In addition their trained professionals can fit it at a special price for AXA customers.

Halfords stock car batteries to fit over 98% of vehicles on the road, so they are likely to have exactly what you need.

They sell everything from standard batteries with a 3-year guarantee through to their silver batteries which have a 5-year guarantee and provide up to 45% extra starting power.

In addition, Halfords stock Start /Stop batteries which come with a 4 year guarantee. These batteries are required for vehicles with start/stop technology and/or regenerative braking. Halfords Start/Stop batteries come fully charged. Most vehicles will require these batteries to be registered with the on-board computer system, therefore professional fitting at a Halfords store is strongly recommended.   

Please Note: For vehicles with start/stop functionality a standard car battery is NOT suitable.
