Wirefree Homes : How does it work? | The Role of my Keyholders | Garda Response

How does it work?

Our Wirefree systems are designed to meet your specific requirements with the latest technology to ensure you are protected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The security system works using radio signals from your sensors back to the main control unit which activates your alarm. The panel then sends an emergency signal to our Monitoring Control Centre and the appropriate action is taken.

Standard equipment used to protect your home.

  4. Contact Sensor - detects opening/closing
  5. The Motion Detector Sensor - detects motion
  6. Wired Internal Siren ( 24-96 zone only)

Wirefree Optional Extras

1. Wired External Bell with Strobe

In the event of living in a remote area, an external sounding bell may be required to illustrate that an alarm has been raised. In urban areas, the majority of customers opt not to have a ringing bell because of the high nuisance factor which may be associated when activated. Reasons in favour of an external ringing bell

  • emergency service will be able to identify the source of the activation.
  • it is an additional warning device therefore an added disincentive to potential intruders.
  • should keyholders be uncontactable passers by will be alerted to your alarm activation.
  • in the unlikely event of a phone line failure the emergency services may not be notified but passers by will be alerted to your alarm activation.
Reasons against an external ringing bell
  • can be considered a nuisance and a source of great friction between neighbours if they are consistently activated.
  • potential intruders may deliberately set off the external bell, wait for the premises to be checked out and then proceed to break in.
  • can be ignored by neighbours.

2. Additional Panic Button

3. Smoke Detector Sensor

4. Remote Control

5. Wirefree Penant Panic Button

6. Progammable Lamp Module (24-96 zone only)

7. Key Fob

The role of my keyholders

Your keyholders play a significant and vital role in the response afforded by the An Garda Siochana should your alarm be activated. It is also important that you give us the details of as many keyholders as possible to ensure the highest level of response should your alarm be activated.

When choosing your keyholders please ensure that:

  • They are only 30 minutes from the premises where the alarm system is installed.
  • They have a set of keys and can operate your system.
  • They know your verification word and your control panel code.
  • They have a telephone.

Please note only one number per person is accepted but you can include your own mobile number or work number as a keyholder.

Verification code

Any person with access to your system should be aware of the verification code. This code will identify you or your keyholders as the genuine user of the system. The code will be requested when the Monitoring Control Centre phone your home following an alarm activation or a cancelled alarm. If the user of the system does not know this word, this will result in contacting the keyholders and An Garda Siochana.

Your verification code is the code you supply us with and should not be confused with your alarm system password. If you forget your verification code, we need to know immediately.

Change of keyholders

If you wish to change your keyholders either temporarily or permanently we need to be informed 24 hours prior to when you wish the change to be implemented.

Gardai response

Every year over 120,000 alarm activations are notified to An Garda Siochana by monitoring centres in Ireland. On average over 95% of these calls are false alarms, resulting in a substantial waste of Garda time and resources. In order to minimise the reporting of false alarms, An Garda Siochana have a policy governing monitored alarm systems.

The policy aims to keep the number of false alarms passed to An Gardai Siochana to a minimum and by doing so achieving the highest standard of response to genuine alarm activations.
