Is there outstanding finance?
Did you know that if a vehicle is subject to a finance agreement, the responsibility is on the purchaser to ensure that all finance is cleared prior to purchase?
Otherwise the vehicle could be seized by the bank to whom the finance is owing leaving you without a car and in the difficult position of trying to track down the original seller!

Is the Certificate of Ownership / NCT Certificate forged?
The Motorcheck database contains a record of the original chassis number for each vehicle as it was recorded at first registration and the NCT certificate number issued by the test centre.
When you request a Motorcheck report you will have the option of comparing each number against the Motorcheck database.
If it doesn't match, Motorcheck will alert you and advise you of further action before completing any final purchase.

Has the mileage been rolled back (clocked)?
Motorcheck consults a variety of vehicle mileage records including trade databases, the Irish National Car History Database as well as it's own vehicle milage records.
When acquiring your own Motorcheck report, the odometer reading given by you is compared against each database.
Should we find a reading that's greater than the one supplied by you, Motorcheck will alert you to the possibility that this vehicle may have had its odometer reading interfered with.

Was it ever used as a Taxi?
If the vehicle being Motorchecked has ever been registered for use as a Taxi, Hackney or Rental Car this will be highlighted in your report.

Has the manufacturer recalled it?
Motorcheck has details on over 4,000 vehicle recalls throughout the European Union.
Your Motorcheck report will indicate if the vehicle you are researching has been subject to a notified recall by the manufacturer.
It will also give details on the problem and show you the recommended repair along with a link to the manufacturer's website.
With this information, you will be able to satisfy yourelf that all necessary repairs have been completed as advised.

Was it ever sold by auction?
Motorcheck receives information directly from one of Ireland's largest auction houses.
Your Motorcheck report will inform you if the vehicle was previously sold at auction and what details were recorded at the time of sale including the sellers declaration.

Was the engine ever replaced?
The Motorcheck database contains a record of the original chassis & engine number for each vehicle as it was recorded at first registration.
When you request a Motorcheck report you will have the option of comparing the chassis and engine number on the Certificate of Ownership against the Motorcheck database.
If they don't match, Motorcheck will alert you and advise further action before completing any final purchase.

How many owners has there been?
Your Motorcheck report will include the number of previous owners that has been recorded for the vehicle as well as the last date of sale.
Where Motorcheck believes that the number of owners is above average for the vehicle's age, you will be advised accordingly.
This means that a potentially problematic vehicle may be avoided before costing you dearly further down the line.

Has the body been repainted, or the colour changed?
The Motorcheck database contains a record of the original colour for each vehicle as it was recorded at first registration.
You will be able to compare this with the current colour to ensure they match and confirm that the vehicle has not been involved in any major modification of its original colour.

Was the vehicle imported?
Motorcheck interrogates the national vehicle file held by the department of the environment each time a vehicle history report is requested.
Your Motorcheck report will confirm if the vehicle being checked has been imported into Ireland, the date of first registration in Ireland, the country of previous origin and previous registration number thus enabling you to trace the vehicles history in its country of origin.

Current NCT?
Each Motorcheck report will show if the vehicle has a current NCT and the NCT due date.
It is important that any used car you may be considering for purchase has a valid NCT.
Certain repairs like the reduction of Co2 emmissions can be expensive to perform and a Motorcheck report will draw your attention to these problems before you buy!

Does it have valid road tax?
Your Motorcheck report will show if the vehicle's road tax is current as well as the expiry date of its existing disc.
In the event that the road tax is not current, Motorcheck will tell you how long the vehicle has been off the road and advise caution (where applicable) before completing a purchase.

Has the vehicle been Scrapped or Dismantled for Parts?
Motorcheck consults the national vehicle file held by the Department of the Environment each time a vehicle history report is requested. If your vehicle has been recorded as "Scrapped or Dismantled for Parts" by the national register, your vehicle history report will warn you and allow you to make an informed decision before you finalise any purchase.
